Well, the 50 doesn't belong to an American though it could. The cost to own one leaves most folks out of the market. Then there is the sound of border music in the vehicle to give them away. As for the song video - I have a hard time extracting a melody from Mexican music. Everything sounds like "La Cucaracha."
That's a shame, John! It's actually a clever little thing, performed in what I think is called "ranchera" style. Everything from the sound, to the editing is a very authentic piece of homage. I didn't even think about what a Barrett can cost. But you're right, I imagine the ammo alone is ruinous. Some years back, a friend wanted to visit one of the Las Vegas "gun lounges." So we went. A gun lounge is basically an overpriced shooting range, with pretty girls up front, all wearing sidearms and tactic-cool gunbabe drag, right? In the back though, the range bosses are all heavy-set or overweight sweaty dudes like you'd see in any other gun range. Weird. Anyway, as I recall, for the money it cost to shoot a Barrett a couple times, you could shoot one of the MP-5's all day long. Anecdotal, I know. Long story short-- you're right-- for most folks, a Barrett is just too high priced a toy, when you can get way more utility out of a 308 or some other more sensible round suitable for deer.
