Reports in the Mexican Press and from various Independent American Journalists are painting a bleak picture of conditions at the Southern border of Mexico and Guatemala.
Thousands of illegal aliens from Haiti and Africa are marching and protesting— demanding to be allowed to cross the length and breadth of Mexico, to the United States.
There are already groups of Haitians that have made it into Tamaulipas, one of the border states sharing part of the Rio Grande with Texas. They were either allowed to cross from Guatemala, or were able to slip through the cracks. The Associated Press says Mexican troops in riot gear were dispatched to disperse them, as they tried to march to the U.S. border.
Around 300 migrants from Central America, Cuba and Haiti left Tapachula, Mexico, and a few hundred others joined the group as it made its way north toward the US. Tapachula is more than a 1,000-mile drive from Hidalgo, Texas, where hundreds of illegal aliens are routinely trying to force their way into the U.S.
The Daily Caller News Foundation reports the group was allowed to pass through an immigration checkpoint after traveling for around eight hours before they were stopped by Mexican National Guardsmen. The troops arrested some of the migrants while others ran away. One Mexican immigration official reportedly kicked a migrant who was laying on the ground.
Meanwhile, migrants stuck in Tapachula are threatening to form a caravan and leave the town, if the Mexican Government doesn’t help them, according to the Associated Press. Friday, more than 14,000 Mexican National Guard troops were deployed to the area to “stop all migration,” said Defense Secretary Luis Cresencio Sandoval.
What is not immediately clear is if these mass-groups of Haitians and Africans are acting independently of the Cartels, and are perhaps waiting until they reach the U.S. border to make any arrangements with organized crime. It seems likely the cartels would be able to ease their passage past the Mexican Army and National Guard.
