Good morning friends,
Just a quick one— something that might raise a couple of eyebrows out there, Bexar County authorities say a man that was riding shotgun on an illegal alien smuggling attempt in Kinney County has confessed to Murder charges, related to a cold case in San Antonio.
San Antonio’s WOAI apparently found the paperwork while making beat checks yesterday, or was otherwise tipped off in the case. 39 year old Jorge Rivera was in the passenger seat of a pickup that was recently pulled over on the highway in Kinney County, carrying a load of illegal aliens.
During questioning, Rivera apparently admitted to killing a 43 year old man named Javier Soto, back in August of 2016. Soto’s body was decapitated, and his hands chopped off. The remainder was dumped into a dumpster and set on fire— apparently in an attempt to destroy potential DNA and other forensic evidence, and prevent identification.
Investigators say Rivera also admitted to being the person captured on surveillance video related to the homicide. He’s now in the Bexar County Jail, awaiting a hearing on this murder charge.
The victim had a Houston address, with family in Puerto Rico. Prior to Houston, he lived in Berks County, Pennsylvania. A former Supervisor at a factory there called him a good employee, and a nice person— sentiments echoed by family and friends in Puerto Rico.
Have a great morning— we’ll be back again, as circumstances warrant. We’ll see you then.
