Good Morning,
Word today that a majority of U.S. Border Patrol employees will be fully complying with the Covid-19 vaccination mandate.
The reporting comes from Valerie Gonzalez, who writes for the RGV’s “The Monitor” newspaper. She says agents received a letter Monday, breaking down the percentages.
According to her sources, the letter from Border Patrol Chief Raul L. Ortiz, says 79% of all employees are fully vaccinated.
About 16% of employees, who are not fully vaccinated, had submitted a reasonable accommodation request that was pending.
Overall, 5% of Border Patrol agents were out of compliance with the deadline — 3% were not fully vaccinated and had not filed a reasonable accommodation request, the other 2% were unresponsive to the agency.
Employees were advised of their requirement to comply with the mandate through previous efforts that included a letter sent to by the Department of Homeland Security.
The above quote is accurate. It looks like Ms. Gonzales’ copy editors might have missed the word “them,” in the sentence “…a letter sent to *them* by the Dept. of Homeland Security.” Mistakes happen. One imagines that because Ms. Gonzalez is a senior, investigative reporter, tired and overworked city editors there at The Monitor, don’t always read her material as closely.
It’s almost certain that these statistics are accurate. Gonzalez is not some fresh-out-college sweet-pea reporter. She would not be reporting this without having either gotten her hands on the document in question, or being told of its existence by an impeccable source.
What readers should probably focus on, however, are the other numbers. Notice how subdivided they are? Instead of being told that it’s 21% who are unvaxxed, the numbers are all broken up to seem even smaller.
We’ve inquired with some of our sources in other areas of Homeland Security, they say they’ve not received any similar letters, but what they’re hearing is another “70% type number,” for their divisions too.
Consider, readers, that almost any law-enforcement organization known to man, throughout history, has operated with the bare minimum of staffing that they can get away with. Why? Money. If any given City Council, or larger legislative body, can save a nickel by having X number of Police instead of Y, they’ll go for X almost every time. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is no exception. There are no “extra bodies.” Losing even 10% of staff at Border Patrol, or U.S. Customs, or perhaps even the TSA, would cause no end of trouble in day-to-day operations. Border Patrol especially is already strained to the max, frequently unable to respond to reports of illegal aliens on area ranches. Now take 15%-to-20% of their staff away.
It’s a potential disaster in the making, and little wonder that these numbers are not being more widely reported— little wonder one has to find word of them leaking out in a Rio Grande Valley newspaper instead of some major organ in New York or Washington D.C.
Busy Weekend for Kinney County Sheriff’s Deputies
Please find the following press release, issued Monday:
Originally, I’d planned to make much of the license plate cloning detail— but it actually speaks for itself. Instead, check this out:
As of 9:00 AM Tuesday Morning, deputies grabbed 3 more loads of smugglers on the highways, 24 aliens in all, and arrested 4 would-be coyotes. Add it all up, that comes to an even 100 arrested on the highway since the weekend, and 12 would be coyotes.
It bears reminding, these numbers are independent of DPS statistics. This is the work of a Sheriff’s Office with 6 original full-time deputies. 3 more have been hired since all this began, and efforts continue to find 10 reserve deputies. Meanwhile, varying numbers of deputies and Constables from Galveston County continue to rotate in and out of the County, pitching and helping out.
These numbers are bananas. Consider this: If Kinney County is the most “draconian” and “excessive” spot on the border— the most “eager” to participate in Operation Lone Star, what must the true numbers elsewhere along the border look like?
The always excellent Todd Bensman reported 2 months ago that roughly 50,000 illegal aliens slip across the border every week, nationwide. That’s roughly 250,000 a month. More than 2-million a year. That’s more than the population of Nebraska. Almost as much as the population of New Mexico. Good grief.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading— we’ll see you again soon. As always, opinions expressed here (and most especially any errors) are entirely our own, and should not be taken as expressions of Kinney County policy.
