Good Morning friends,
What a strangeness. The more we caution and try to temper people’s expectations, the more determined Governor Greg Abbott seems to be that he’s really going to get after the border crisis.
We’re pretty certain the governor isn’t a subscriber. So what’s happening can only be some kind of a super power. Yes indeed.
So: Don’t get too excited. The Governor’s not doing anything. Nope. Nothing at all. There will be no further attempt to secure the border any time soon. The Governor is bluffing away. Bluff bluff bluffaroo.
We have to be careful with a super power like this. Such things— such weapons, for surely that is what they are, must be kept holstered and used only for the best of reasons.
In all seriousness, yesterday, Governor Abbott sent an especially sternly worded letter to the White House and shared it with the press.
There was something there for everyone, just about— many seemed taken with the part where the Governor seemed to say that the framers of the Constitution foresaw the kind of failure being exhibited by the President.
Here’s a link to the Fox News website coverage of the event, including an easy-to-read copy of the letter he sent to the White House. They also go over some of the same ground we’ve been with our last several newsletters.
And, here’s a link to another letter sent to DPS and Texas Military leaders, directing them to “use all resources and tools available to repel immigrants from attempting to cross illegally”.
What’s missing from these letters is a concrete description of what exactly DPS and Texas Soldiers might be doing, beyond what they already are. That may be for the good— it’s probably best not to say until right before it’s time to do.
And— it may be that DPS and others need time to consider what their budgets are and what’s feasible.
That’s why we return to pointing out what we believe is the key element in all of these events over the last few days: The Governor’s mention that the Texas Congressional delegation needs to do its part in securing federal funds for the effort.
As it is— the State seems to have already stripped funding and personnel from other parts of the budget, and other communities around the state. So far, it hasn’t seemed to have a major impact on the public, but that will surely change if more cuts have to be made to find money for the border.
That’s all for this morning— we aren’t too terribly concerned with the weird outrage over busing migrants and aliens to Philadelphia, so this will be our only mention of it today, even as it seems to be dominating the news in some places which don’t seem to be mentioning the Governor’s message to the White House.
Weird.
More gaslighting? Or perhaps they’re just confused by the Governor’s actions in a way similar to how we’ve been, and don’t want to be seen publicly trying to tease out what’s real and what’s not.
Who can say? But generally speaking, there’s nothing wrong with trying to read the tea leaves. It’s something reporters and analysts used to be paid very well for doing.
As always, this newsletter is an independent work product— created without the input of Kinney County Officials. Readers should be aware of our employment at the Kinney County Sheriff’s Office when considering the possibility of bias, but should not confuse any errors or other misdeeds here for official statements on behalf of the county. Indeed, the Cavalry-Dispatch predates our employment and the statements within are entirely our own, unless specifically noted otherwise.
Have a great morning, and better day. We’ll see you again sometime further on down the road.
