It now appears that Mr. Lopez has removed his video from the internet. At our last check, it had been viewed on Facebook about 8,000 times. One can only imagine the flurry of “DM’s” flying about in regards to it.
It is almost 9:30 PM, Wednesday night as we write this, with no official comment on the matter. It may be that there will be something in the morning, but one does not wish to leave their readers and subscribers hanging.
As we said in our subheading above, “Telephone” is a squirrelly game. If that is indeed what happened, one can perhaps forgive Mr. Lopez for leaping forward with what would have been one hell of a scoop. Mr. Lopez is clearly a very patriotic man as a Texan and retired Border Patrolman.
What we can comfortably and accurately report here at the Cavalry - Dispatch, is that we have had no official confirmation or denial of Mr. Lopez's video. It may even be true that no one from the County has had a chance to view it. We can also truthfully say that the County Sheriff, County Judge, and County Attorney are not at our beck and call. It is not uncommon for our queries to them to go unanswered.
They are most reliably reached for comment while attending official meetings and gatherings, conducting county business.
As we have already reported, the Sheriff and other officials will be addressing the County in a special meeting Monday morning, to discuss public safety in the County.
It would be foolish to think they would enter such a meeting without having researched certain options and possibilities, so that they may be able to present a range of information to the public and duly elected representatives.
It is entirely possible that Mr. Lopez heard something about these discussions, and was carried away in a rush of patriotic fervor. We will be present for that meeting Monday, and will continue attempting to speak with County officials before then.
Until then, stay calm, and be at ease. Despite worries and fears over illegal immigration, this is actually a fine time to be living in Kinney County. The weather is cooling, and the rainy weather this week means good things for area ranchers and homeowners. We apologize if any of our subscribers feel their inboxes have been unduly spammed today.
