Good morning, friends,
By now, you’ve probably seen the video and other material from Elon Musk’s visit to Eagle Pass last week.
It apparently came together pretty quickly, catching a lot of folks by surprise and leading to a lot of what seems to us like knee-jerk criticism of the choice.
How can you tell? Well, rather than dispute any of what Musk, Congressman Tony Gonzalez, and Medina County Sheriff Tony Brown had to say, most seem to be babbling about how Musk had his cowboy hat on backwards, or how much the Congressman “sucks,” and should have been in Washington fighting to stop a potential Government shutdown, etc etc etc.
These are not serious people. They might think they are— but they’re not.
They’d rather carry on about ephemera and go on tolerating the very real destruction that we are all witnessing in real time, day in and day out here in the Del Rio sector.
And that should tell you all you need to know, but let’s keep going.
Musk is by most reasonable accounts a visionary and a futurist. What’s that mean? Well, for starters, he’s not a midwit like most of his critics. We’re not just throwing stones there, either— it’s a basic fact of statistics and math— most of his critics are literally midwits. But to take it on a little further down the road, he sees things and apprehends consequences far more quickly than your average bear.
And his bankroll would make one suspect that he’s also more familiar with the levers of power out there and would ordinarily perhaps prefer to get some things accomplished by staying home, picking up the phone and having a word or two with various political figures.
Instead, he came all the way to Maverick County to shine a light on what’s happening.
Why?
Is it possible that he’s up against such entrenched, short-sighted interests, that he needs additional pressure from the masses?
We are in a deep dark mess if that’s the case, but what else is new?
Congressman Gonzalez has his critics— we’ve been very consistent in noting their points over the years and many of his shortcomings along the way. But we also believe that lawmakers can be like dogs. When they do the ‘right’ thing, the last thing you should do is yell at them. That sort of thing just confuses a beast. So, good on Tony Gonzalez for taking part in the trip and the internet broadcast. Since then, he’s been publicizing a bill he’s pushing that aims to fix what’s broken. We haven’t read it yet, but we’re pretty confident that it doesn’t go far enough for our tastes.
And critics are already pointing to past contradictory positions he’s taken.
The “credible fear standard” refers to an element of asylum law, which requires there be a credible fear on the part of the claimant, driving them to flee their home.
Immigration Judges are needed in large numbers, because there are so many people claiming asylum. But that’ll never work, until they manage to actually close the border. You can’t hire enough Immigration Judges while it’s wide open.
Speeding up the hearings? Days not years? Sounds good. But how?
Boosting removal flights? Now you’re talking— if you’re talking about flying people back to wherever they came from.
In the end, the Congressman’s critics will be waving this away as simple opportunism on the Congressman’s part. But— if pressure and opportunism didn’t play a role in politics, we wouldn’t bother having protests, amirite?
As for Sheriff Tony Brown, we thought his inclusion was an interesting choice, highlighting how the effects of this broken border are being felt more than a hundred miles away in Medina County.
Truth is— the effects are being felt on the other side of the nation, and not just in New York, but we digress, there’s more to be looked at.
It was about a year ago, that Sheriff Brown was one of the Sheriffs onstage in Kinney County, as regional County Judges and Sheriff’s historically declared a state of invasion— a mostly ceremonial step meant to encourage Governor Greg Abbott to do the same.
So, Sheriff Brown is no Johnny Come Lately— he’s been conscious of what’s going on since perhaps the very beginning.
As it happens— Sheriff Brown’s Medina County is also home to one of Congressman Gonzalez’ upcoming election opponents, Ms. Julie Clark. We’ve met Ms. Clark— she seems like a lot of Texas women— sweet as pie on the surface, but one suspects capable of being hard as hell beneath the crust.
She’ll have to be— the work’s cut out for her with several others all declared to be running too, that she’ll have to fight off or absorb if anyone’s going to be unseating an incumbent.
It may help that she’s the author of the document that censures the Congressman that’s going around the State GOP.
Is there some additional political message hidden amid the tea leaves that the Sheriff of one of the Counties that seems most visibly aligned against Congressman Gonzalez was part of this event? Maybe. It might also just be a coincidence.
One of the big things to come out of Musk’s border visit, is the footage of two Border Patrol agents and one Texas Guardsman cutting some of the concertina wire and making way for some of the migrants to cross the river illegally— even fist bumping some of the presumed Venezuelans as they cross.
Some are calling for arrests— for the enforcement of various legal codes that if interpreted a certain way would seem to characterize these actions as treasonous, perhaps.
If we sound cautious, it’s because we are. Treason is a heavy word that shouldn’t be tossed about casually. But after more than 2 years of this broken border— maybe it’s time for some heavy words to be seeing the light of day.
We don’t have much hope that Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber will be arresting any federal agents any time soon— but action like this may drive state leaders and others to take a harder stance and do more than just shuffle their feet and share more misery with New York and Chicago.
As effective as that has been, it’s been incredibly frustrating to watch— knowing it is ultimately a sign of weakness— a sign that the State of Texas is unwilling to do more to stand up for not only itself, but the rest of the United States, which in a sense is being raped in its sleep by the knowing cupidity of the Federal Government.
And finally this morning— let’s turn our attention to the far north— where a Sheriff in the State of Michigan is sounding the alarm, warning his community and others about transnational gangs that have come across the Southern Border and are targeting wealthy-seeming homes for invasion robberies.
Oakland County is the second most populated county in Michigan— the County Seat is the city of Pontiac.
In a video posted on X/Twitter, Sheriff Michael Bouchard sounded the alarm.
Does anyone really think that a random County in Michigan is the only place that is seeing organized gangs of burglars and thieves that have come across the Southern Border?
Of course not. They just seem to be the first to make an arrest, investigate, and say the awkward part out loud. Good on Sheriff Bouchard and his Deputies.
Sun’s coming up this Monday morning. We’re almost out of time.
A big congratulations to our friend and associate Auden Cabello, who is being rightfully recognized for his longstanding efforts in documenting what’s been happening along the river since before the Haitian Crisis.
As it happens, some of his work has been featured in the Epoch Times Documentary “Gotaways,” which we’ve covered here.
But for now, he may be best known as “the guy Elon Musk retweeted.”
What a strange and wonderful world.
Congratulations on your “overnight” success, Mr. Cabello.
Have a great morning everyone, we’ll see you again soon.
As always, this newsletter is a solitary effort, and no one should confuse it for any sort of official communication on behalf of Kinney County Government.
Full disclosure, we’re employed there, fielding public information requests, which may account for any perceived bias on our part.
I’m actually happy I met Auden, he reports a Humanitarian Truth, but the real truth is, his family isn’t allowed into his country yet because they have to wait behind the illegals... Schmerber... We’ll see, he can be removed from office for not Handling his business... His business is doing more than whining like a little teapot on Neil Cavuto...
I passed this on to others.
