September’s apprehension numbers are in, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection reveals almost 1.7-million illegal aliens were caught crossing the border this fiscal year— breaking the all-time record which has stood for 35 years.
This is the highest number of arrests in the history of our nation. And consider, that it comes at a time when Border Patrol is absolutely demoralized and shattered with vaccine mandates, and frustrations related to spending most of their time babysitting mostly fraudulent asylum seekers and not out actively hunting “bad” illegals that are trying to escape notice while smuggling drugs or future enslaved prostitutes.
This should be unacceptable. If you reckon that Border Patrol has spent the last six months with their hands tied behind their backs, mostly unable to do their jobs, then it has been an absolute free-for-all smorgasbord for the Cartels— seemingly doing as they please, where they please, however they please, to whomever they please.
“The Cartel runs the border!” That’s what Uvalde County rancher, turned facebook activist Mike Miller declared at a recent town hall meeting in Kinney County. At that moment, some in the audience might have wanted to dismiss him as being simply bombastic. And perhaps he is. But it’s hard to argue with his assessment of the situation now. Where some see bombast, could actually just be simple frustration with the levels of denial still present in many areas of Texas and the nation at large.

There is some mealy mouthed copy there, about high numbers of expulsions and repeat crossers— as if to suggest that these horrible numbers are not so bad as they appear. Frankly, to some, this would suggest that they are even worse. That would mean people get caught and sent back to Mexico, only to try try try again, until they succeed. There is no reason for them to stop.
It’s been estimated that in good times, Border Patrol might catch 40% of those crossing. In bad times, which these surely must be, how many might they catch? 20% 15% ? Let’s split the difference and assume Border Patrol’s 1.7 million captures represent roughly 30% of all those who’ve crossed this fiscal year.
That would suggest more than 5.6 million have made it across into the U.S. These numbers are madness.
No less a figure than George P. Bush is on twitter, raising hell about it today. He must be the most ultra-conservative of the Bush family.
“1.7 million is almost 6% of Texas' entire population. It's more than the population of Wyoming and Vermont combined,” Bush tweeted.
Was going to add some more here— but you know what readers? Bush, that fire-breathing demagogue, is on a roll:
Liberals keep telling us the border crisis is just innocent families seeing refuge. Anyone with access to the internet can see they're leaving out some crucial stats. This FY, 9,728 illegal migrants with criminal convictions were apprehended.
The category of criminal conviction includes homicide, manslaughter, human trafficking, assault, battery, domestic violence, sexual offenses, and illegal weapons trafficking.
Law and order is not a rhetorical term, it's a legitimate concern. Biden’s refusal to take action on the border has directly led to human rights violations. (Just yesterday, agents caught another MS-13 member convicted of child sexual assault).
Here’s a link to that arrest Bush is referencing.
Four months ago, I sued Joe Biden for illegally halting the border wall construction. As Texas Attorney General, I will continue to stop the Biden administration in its tracks and restore the desperately needed law and order to the great state of Texas. This chaos must end.
And there’s the reason for this hawkish turn for the normally less peppery Bush. Bush wants to win his next election. He stops short of saying what he’d do differently than current Attorney General Ken Paxton, who many on the left accuse of doing far too much. But, it seems like many other Republicans seeking office this coming season, Mr. Bush can read a room, and knows his voters seem to be growing ever more concerned with the lack of progress in addressing the border crisis.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading— and remember this dispatch and these statistics, the next time some fool wants to tell you that the South Texas Border Crisis is just some make-believe nonsense.
